Vote Against Violence PAC Backs Donna Edwards Bid for Congress
Washington, DC (August 4, 2006) – Vote Against Violence PAC (VAVPAC) announces its endorsement of Donna Edwards in her race against Albert Wynn in Maryland’s Fourth Congressional District.
Vote Against Violence is the only political action committee dedicated to ending domestic and sexual violence by supporting candidates who advocate on behalf of survivors and work to prevent domestic and sexual violence in their communities. VAVPAC was established in January of this year by two young professionals in the hopes of bringing national attention to domestic and sexual violence issues through the lens of elections and creating a Congress committed to ending this type of violence, which affects one in seven men and one in four women.
Donna Edwards’ fifteen years of extensive work as an advocate against domestic violence makes her the perfect candidate to provide a strong voice and example within Congress. Donna Edwards was one of the original lobbyists and contributors to the original Violence Against Women Act of 1994. She says, “ I feel very strongly about the provisions and increasing the federal commitment to ending violence against women. I know that VAWA and the subsequent legislation are a premier example of the kind of sea change legislation that can happen in the lives of women and children when the federal government steps in as a partner in the work to end violence against women.â€
Founder and acting President, Holly Shulman says, “We are confident that Donna Edwards will fight for safety of survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. With Donna Edwards’ large breadth of experience, dedication and leadership, we are eager to see her make change in Washington, “
