TEMPLE HILLS, MD. – July 25, 2006 – The Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now Political Action Committee (ACORN PAC) announced their endorsement of Donna Edwards in challenging 7-term incumbent Albert Wynn in the Democratic Primary in Maryland’s 4th Congressional District. ACORN is the nation's largest community organization of low- and moderate-income families, working together for social justice and stronger communities. In making its endorsement, ACORN PAC cited Edwards’ commitment to working on issues that affect average Americans.

“ACORN PAC is proud to endorse Donna Edwards in this race,” said Gloria Swierenga, Chair of Maryland and Prince George’s County ACORN. “She has been a tremendous advocate for working people and their families during her career and will continue to do so as the representative for Maryland’s 4th Congressional District.”

“It is time that the voters in Maryland’s 4th Congressional District had a real choice for their representative in Congress,” said Donna Edwards. “For far too long, Albert Wynn has replaced the interests of his constituents with those of the oil, gas, banking, credit card, and telecommunications industries from whom he is receiving a great deal of campaign contributions. It is time we take back Congress and return it to helping those that need it most. I am honored to have ACORN PAC’s endorsement in my pursuit of this goal.”

Donna Edwards has spent her professional career fighting for the rights and interests of everyday Americans. She has fought to establish a “living wage”, save Social Security, and support labor and human rights internationally. In addition, Edwards has led efforts to bring millions of dollars to programs that make a difference in the lives of working families and to hold our government accountable.

Albert Wynn voted for the recent bankruptcy bill that John Conyers (D-MI) described as "the most special interest-vested bill that I have ever dealt with in my career in Congress. It massively tilts the playing field in favor of banks and credit card companies and against working people and their families." In addition, Wynn surrendered to special interest money by voting in favor of the Bush-Cheney energy bill, repealing the estate tax, and privatizing the Internet. Locally, he championed the effort to bring casinos to the district: an effort that was challenged and defeated with the help of Donna Edwards.

“I’m in this race to win,” declared Edwards. “I’ve raised over $200,000, not from oil and gas, telecommunications, banking and other industry PACs, but from citizens locally and nationally who are ready for change.”
