Donna Chosen to be the Democratic Nominee for the June 17, 2008, Special General Election

On Thursday, April 24, 2008, Donna Edwards was chosen to be the Democratic nominee for the June 17, 2008, Special General Election by the Prince George’s County Democratic Central Committee by unanimous vote. This follows her nomination by the Montgomery County Democratic Central Committee on Tuesday. The nomination will now be passed on to Governor Martin O’Malley, the Maryland Democratic Party, and the State Board of Elections for confirmation.

“While we find ourselves in an unusual situation, I believe that this Special General Election presents us with a unique opportunity,” said Donna Edwards. “With the support of the Prince George’s and Montgomery County Democratic Central Committees and the people of the 4th District, I look forward to beginning the work of representing the 4th Congressional District.  I believe every election is a new election, and I take nothing for granted.  I am excited about continuing to meet with individuals, community leaders, small business owners and others all across our district, those who supported me and those who did not, to begin a dialogue in order to achieve the objectives we set forth to move our district and our country forward.”
