TEMPLE HILLS – Donna Edwards has demonstrated in recent debates before the NAACP, on Fox Morning News and NewsChannel 8’s News Talk that she continues to gain momentum with voters in the 4th District Democratic race who want new leadership that will fight for their needs in Congress.
At Monday night’s NAACP candidate’s forum at Prince George’s Community College, Donna spoke about the personal experiences that fuel her passion for providing healthcare for all, improving our children’s education, helping families to stay in their homes, and bringing our troops home from Iraq. Donna showed Congressman Wynn and voters alike why she has the leadership skills and integrity to be the next representative in Congress.
By contrast, the Congressman returned to false, politically motivated personal attacks against Donna because he is unable to defend his deplorable voting record on issues critical to the interests of voters. The Congressman resorted to apathetically listing off legislation instead of addressing the real issues important to the voters of the 4th district.
Responding to Congressman Wynn’s mockery of using her personal experience to highlight policy issues, Ms. Edwards said, “I don’t think it’s so bad for politicians, people who hold elective office, to understand the lives that we lead. I think it’s actually important to bring that to a framework of public policy that actually works for people.” She summed up her powerful presentation, saying, “I’m a public interest fighter and the same way that I fought for myself and my family to overcome obstacles, I plan to fight for you every single day in the United States Congress. And you won’t have to look at me 16 years later and say, “Where has she been?” because I will have been there from day one.” Please click here to watch Donna’s entire closing statement.
Yesterday, during debates on Fox Morning News and Channel 8’s News Talk, Donna continued to point out the Congressman’s corporate special interest support taking $440,000 from big oil and gas companies, $205,000 from big banks and lenders, and over $350,000 from big cable and telephone companies. Wynn could only desperately respond by lobbing false claims about Donna’s years of public interest work and her supporters.
Reflecting on the aggressive nature of Cong. Wynn’s attacks, Donna Edwards said, “I find it unnerving that Al Wynn, a representative in the United States Congress, has so blatantly resorted to lying about my personal life, my history of community and public service, and the motivations of individuals supporting me. It is further proof that the Congressman has no interest in discussing his voting record or the issues affecting this district and the country.”
